Frasa when
Frasa ini bermakna bahwa dua buah
kegitan yang di hubungkan oleh frasa tersebut memiliki bentuk waktu (tense)
yang berbeda, yaitu salah satu klausa
memakai past continuos tense dan klausa lainnya menggambarkan simple past
tense.
Hal ini menggambarkan bahwa kalusa
yang menggunakan past continuous tense masih berlangsung dan dilakukan sebelum
kalusa simple past tense pada masa lampau.
Ex: vicky was slepping yesterday
afternoon when i knocked on her door.
Frasa while
Mengindikasikan
bahwa kedua klausa yang terhubung setara atau sejajar. Ini berart kedua kalausa
tersebut sama-sama tengah berlangsung dalam masa lampau (past continuos tense).
Ex:

I was singing while she was dancing.

John was reading news on TV while his manager was preparing his
next schedule.
